TRADE UNION DEMANDS SALLY MBANEFO’S REMOVAL

SALLY MBANEFO 1The Nigerian Tourism Development Corporate (NTDC) branch of Amalgamated Union of Public Corporations, Civil Service Technical and Recreational Services Employees (AUPCTRE) has called on the federal government to sack the Director General of NTDC, Ms Sally Mbanefo for an act of fraudulent practices and incompetence.
This was contained in a 12-page petition dated 22 October 2014 and addressed to the federal minister of culture and tourism, High Chief Edem Duke.
The workers lamented that Mbanefo has demonstrated some high-level of incompetence in handling the job she was brought to improve upon and consequently she has given a very clear impression that she does not know what she was meant to do in that office.
According to the petition ‘some clear indications were the case of over eighty million naira the DG claimed she spent for the development of a cave in Anambra state whereas no single trip of sand was dropped on that soil till date, and another issue of spending over thirty-five million for the training of the staff was a lie. At the ITB Berlin Nigeria did not participate as an exhibitor rather as an observer, at FITUR in Spain the country did not participate, at the recently concluded Arabian travel market in Dubai, Nigeria did not also participate obviously the administration of Mbanefo means failure and disappointment for the growth and development of the tourism sector. A situation where the DG and cohorts use the name of the corporation to sources for money and such money not used for the purpose it was meant for is worrisome and unacceptable’. Below is the petition signed by the union:

  1. My company was working for NTDC in the past. Since Ms. Sally onboard Nigeria lost a lot of reputation that former DG has build up! Now Nigeria tourism is back wher it was 10 years before!
