Senate Passes Buhari’s Supplementary Budget

house of senatehouse of senateThe Senate has passed the Federal Government’s supplementary budget request of N574 billion.‎
The bulk of the amount, N521 billion, will be used of settle the outstanding fuel subsidy debt.
Two weeks ago, President Muhammadu Buhari sought the approval of the National Assembly for a supplementary budget of N465.3 billion.
However, the Senate Committee on Appropriate decided to add N108 billion to the supplementary budget in order to up settle the outstanding fuel subsidy debts and cover for fresh payment.
The Senate, though expressed dissatisfaction with the failure of the Executive to provide the needed details for the approval to be granted, nonetheless went ahead to approve the budget on Tuesday.
The Senate had requested for, among other things, the details of the debt owed oil marketers and initially warned that it would not treat the request until it got the details.
But ostensibly the suffering being experienced across the country by Nigerians trying to buy fuel swayed them from their initial hard-line position and passes the request on Tuesday.
