Security shake-up in Aso Rock as Buhari appoints new CSO

imageIn the wake of President Muhammadu Buhari’s resumption to the Presidential Villa, Abuja, security agencies have started the redeployment of security personnel who have been in charge of the protection of the former president, Dr Goodluck Jonathan.
It was learnt that most of the body guards, made up of men and women of the Very Important Personalities (VIP) Protection Unit of the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Nigerian Intelligence Agency (NIA) were being redeployed out of the Villa, to create room for new personnel.
Apart from the Brigade of Guards, there is also a detachment of the police, all working to provide protection for the Presidency, but it was not immediately clear whether these groups would also be affected in the shake-up.
All those being redeployed were expected to be replaced by other personnel from the same security units.
As of Friday last week, many of them had received the notice of their redeployment, but were not expected to leave immediately for their new area of assignments.
It was learnt that they would move out of the Presidency in batches, as they were being replaced, in order to allow for a smooth handover of responsibilities to those taking over their beats.
Though it was yet to be officially announced, Nigerian Tribune learnt that President Buhari has already appointed his Chief Security Officer (CSO), who would coordinate his security in Aso Rock.
