Police burst online blackmail gang

img-20161029-wa0005A Lagos based notorious gang of online blog-blackmailers have been nabbed by the police. Information from the police indicates that the ring leader of the gang was picked up last week by the police at Festac town area of Lagos.
It was reliably gathered that the police went into investigation after several petitions were allegedly lodged with the police over extortion and intimidation.
According to a reliable source the group run an online named www.naijagistlive.com specifically targeting high profile individuals in the society with an intention to blackmail them with fabricated news and lies.
A top banker and a popular oil magnate are said to have fallen victim of the gang that is now under scrutiny at the Special Fraud Unit of the police in Ikoyi Lagos after they were threatened to pay ransom for their news not to be published on their blog.
The arrested gang leader that was arrested last week is identified as Babatunde Oyebode, a secondary school drop out who is into webdesign and hacking.
The suspect was said to have been linked with a PayPal account that was allegedly used to collect seven thousands British pounds from a top banker.
It was gathered that several Bank accounts were also traced to Oyebode who is currently cooling off at the SFU.
A lot of incriminating evidences were also found on his laptop and phone, linking him with a popular blogger based in Europe as a member of the blackmail gang.
Sources at the SFU confirmed the arrest adding that Oyebode’s confession may help sister security agencies on the activities surround the hacking of sensitive government websites in recent past.
Police source however said two other members of the racket are being trailed while Oyebode is set to be arraigned in court next week.
