Okigwe Senate Seat: Uwajumogu Salutes Tony Chukwu, Araraume Owunna, Others

Amid torrents of endorsements across political leanings, which has further boosted the realization of his political mandate of representing Okigwe zone in the red chambers of the National Assembly, the former Speaker, Imo state House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Uwajumogu, has commended relevant stakeholders in the Okigwe unity and developmental project for their support and sacrifices aimed at ensuring peace, unity, development, as well as restoring the dignity of the zone.
The former Speaker, who is also the senatorial candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the forthcoming rerun election, specifically appreciated the sterling contributions of the notable APC, PDP and APGA Chieftains in Okigwe zone, Chief Tony Chukwu (Onweghi Ihe Kariri Chineke), Senator Ifeanyi Araraume, business mogul and former APGA senatorial candidate in the zone, Mazi Clement Owunna, as well as other leaders and stakeholders.
The political camp of the APC candidate has recently become a Mecca of some sort, following the influx of teeming supporters across party lines into the camp. It would be recalled that the former APGA Senatorial candidate in the March 28, 2015 general elections, Mazi Clem Owunna, recently threw-in the towel from re-contesting the senatorial poll as ordered by the Owerri division of the Appeal Court, and called on his teeming supporters to work assiduously towards ensuring the realization of the Uwajumogu senatorial ambition.
In the same vein, a notable philanthropist in the zone and PDP Chieftain in the state, Chief Tony Chukwu (Onweghi Ihe kariri Chineke) had penultimate weekend coalesced his political structure into Benjamin Uwajumogu Campaign Organization (BUCO), while calling his supporters to vote for the APC candidate.
The leaders had argued that reconnecting Okigwe zone to the mainstream national politics was long overdue, following the litany of infrastructural and developmental challenges confronting the zone. They reasoned that considering Uwajumogu’s unimpeachable track record of cognate legislative experience, accessibility, pedigree and total loyalty to his party, he is better positioned to fight the course of the Okigwe agenda in the Senate.
Rt. Hon. Uwajumogu, had while commending their effort and consideration, described it as a worthy sacrifice made for the future and rapid development of Okigwe zone, adding that the Okigwe project is a collective call to duty. He however, promised to reciprocate the massive support he has garnered so far by making issues affecting Okigwe zone his topmost priority if elected.
He also used the opportunity, to caution the youths against violence and other election vices before, during and after the Okigwe rerun elections, stressing that the existing peace and unity of the zone will not be truncated because of politics, adding that the collective needs of the people is paramount and should be placed above personal and party interest.
The APC candidate, who also appealed to other leaders of the zone, who are yet to endorse his candidature, to sheath their swords in the interest of the overall wellbeing of the zone, explained that the election of an APC senator from the area, will serve as a springboard to get the zone and the entire southeast region connected to mainstream National politics of Nigeria, which comes with developmental and infrastructural advantages.
He however, called on the electorate of Okigwe zone, to vote en masse for him at the polls, adding that youth development, employment creation, women empowerment and infrastructure renewal will top his legislative agenda.
