Nigerians To Pay More For Passport


The Federal Government through the Ministry of Interior has reviewed upward the fee for the International Passport by 50%. No reason was given for the increase. Mr Obua, Public Relation Officer, PRO, of Nigeria Immigration Service, NIS, confirmed this development. According to him NIS would soon begin a sensitization campaign to create more awareness on the increase.

A 64 page passport will cost #20,000, applicants who fall below 18 years is #8,750, while those between 18-60 years will have to pay #15,000 and applicants above 60 years will have to cough out #8,500.

For the categories of female applicants who want to change their names either for reason of marriage., divorce and death they will pay #8,750.The sum #30,000 will however be paid as processing fee for request of change of data.

Mr. Muhammed Babandede, Deputy Comptroller in Charge of Operations/Passport said Abba Moro the Hounorable Minister of Interior has approved the increase in a circular he signed. He said, “ACG Passports, Nigerian Missions, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other relevant local and foreign government agencies have been duly informed”.

He further said, “the changes do not make the present passport invalid. All payments will be made on line except the #30,000 processing fee for the change of data which will be paid through a decided bank account which the service will give to the public”.
