MMPN holds symposium on hajj

The Muslim Media Practitioners of Nigeria (MMPN), Lagos State Chapter, will hold its maiden edition of annual symposium on Thursday July 20.
This year’s edition would address challenges facing hajj operations in the country.
Tagged Hajj Operations and Media Responsibility, the one-day event will take place at the Lagos State Secretariat Mosque Multipurpose Hall, Alausa, Ikeja by 9 am.
A statement by MMPN Public Relations Officer, Alhaji Tajudeen Adebanjo, said the choice of the theme was aimed at finding lasting solution to the challenges facing the industry as well as the reportage of Hajj operations.
“Ours is to propagate Islam through the mass media thereby confronting the current under-reporting and misrepresentation of Islam and Muslims in the Nigerian, nay global media,” he said.
With a view to finding solutions to the challenges associated with Hajj operations in Nigeria over the years, MMPN, he said, decided to bring stakeholders, especially the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON), States Pilgrims Welfare Boards (SPWB), private tour operators, pilgrims, air carriers as well as the media practitioners, together to discuss the topic.
Alhaji Adebanjo said: “In view of this, we have invited authorities and veteran in hajj operations to do justice on the topic. Veteran journalist cum hajj expert Alhaji Liad Tella, now a Senior Research Fellow at University of Ilorin would be the lead speaker, adding that NAHCON Head of Media, Alhaji Uba Mana, Managing Director, Med-viewAirlines, Alhaji Muneer Bankole and Vice-President, Association of Hajj and Umrah Operators of Nigeria (AHOUN), Lagos Zone, Alhaji Qasim Alabi are the discussants.
“Guests would be led by Lagos State Deputy Governor Dr Idiat Oluranti Adebule, Commissioner for Home Affairs Dr AbdulHakeem AbdulLateef, NAHCON Chairman Alhaji Muhammad Muktar and Deputy President-General, Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) Alhaji Sakariyahu Babalola.”
