Lagos state Government has responded to the violent demonstrations of street hawkers caused by the death of their fellow who, while trying to evade arrest, was knocked down by an articulated truck on Ikorodu road few days ago.
The aggrieved hawkers reportedly destroyed four BRT buses and caused traffic jam while some other evil perpetrators seized the advantage to rub innocent citizens passing.
The State government in its response sympathized with the family and friends of the deceased who was the victim of the misfortune occurrence.
In order to avoid re-occurrence of such incident the government under the governorship of Mr. Akinwumi Ambode said it will commence a total enforcement against street trading and hawking.
Ambode further stressed that the law banning street trading and hawking across the metropolis will take its full course.
He sighted section one of the Lagos State Street Trading and illegal market Prohibition Law 2013 restricting street trading and hawking in the metropolis as a legal weapon against any offenders.
The state however stated that every lawbreaker shall be liable to the fine of either 90, 000 naira or six months jail term.
