Imo Senatorial: APC Abandon Athan Achonu For Uwajumogu

imoHistory was made last weekend at Umueze One, in Ehime Mbano local government area, Imo State, when the entire political structure of All Progressive Congress (APC) abandoned Chief Athan Achonu, who is from the area, to overwhelmingly endorse the former Speaker of the state House of Assembly and the Okigwe zone senatorial candidate of the party, Rt. Hon Benjamin Uwajumogu, for Okigwe senate.
Endorsing the APC, candidate, the Apex political leader of the area and an accomplished philanthropist, Chief Tony Chukwu, disclosed that the local government area, decided to adopt Rt. Hon Benjamin Uwajumogu, as its sole candidate for the Okigwe senate rerun election, after careful assessment of his pedigree, cognate experience, track record of service to the people, political party advantage and his passion to work for his people.
He added that Uwajumogu’s unbeaten record in job creation and youth empowerment, while in office as Speaker of the State Assembly has continued to attract numerous admirers into identifying with his aspiration, as according to him, the reward for good job is more work.
He said: ‘’ we need development in our zone, we need to connect our zone to mainstream politics of Nigeria, we need to leave a legacy for the upcoming generation, because the way things are presently in our zone, creates fear in some of us, that if we don’t sacrifice our political party sentiments and other irrelevant sentiments in support of a viable candidate who can leverage on his political party connections and legislative experience to ensure that Okigwe zone gets its fair share in the scheme of things, we will doomed as a generation’’.
While urging their preferred candidate, Uwajumogu of the APC, to go ahead and use his influence and entrepreneurial acumen to work for the restoration of the zone and its people when he is elected, he assured that the local government area, would support the realization of the senatorial ambition of the APC, candidate, having fully understood the importance of electing the first APC, ranking member of Igbo extraction into the Nigerian senate , noting that the former Speaker’s elevation to the upper chambers of the National Assembly would be an added advantage to Ehime Mbano people, as the town has been strategically positioned to reap from the abundance of Ben Uwajumogu’s good leadership qualities.
The local government chairman of the area, Hon Chike Orjiako and the member representing the area in the state House of Assembly, Hon Lawman Duruji, while commending the Speaker for facilitating the attraction of several life changing projects to the local government, when he was the leader of the State legislature, also described him as a goal-getter whose main interest was basically rooted in the total turn-around of Okigwe zone to guarantee its citizenry the needed sense of belonging.
They also assured that the people of the local government are anxious of electing the APC, candidate as their senator, to enable them continue in benefiting from the numerous policies and programs of the present administration, which he said were abound in different sectors such as; road construction, free education, human capital development, agriculture, as well as other reforms which would have direct impact in the daily lives of the people.
Responding, the APC, candidate, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Uwajumogu, assured the people Ehime Mbano , of continued government presence, owing to their support to his senatorial bid and strategic importance of the area to the nation’s economy.
He promised that the next phase of work immediately after next month’s elections would be to lobby for completion of all ongoing projects in the area, especially the state owned polytechnic in which he attracted to the area , which according to him, such gesture would ensure the creation of jobs for the people of the area, in accordance with the present administration’s policy of providing gainful employment opportunities to our teeming youths, adding that such measures would also add to the growth and development of zone’s economy.
The Speaker, further expressed his profound appreciation to Ehime Mbano people, for their continued support and solidarity to the present administration in the centre, within the last 7 months, adding that it was time for the people of the zone to come together and ensure the institutionalization of the government they can call their own, with an assurance of more democracy dividends from the centre to the people of the area if elected in next month polls.
