Zamfara State Governor, Abdulaziz Yari, has joined President Muhammadu Buhari to condemn the murder of eight persons at Talata-Mafara in the state.
The governor, though, said the killing was caused by false alarm, promised not to let the perpetrators go unpunished.
Speaking with State House correspondents after a meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa, Governor Yari described the act as “unnecessary and act of devil” adding that “the government will not take the issue of people taking the laws into their own hands lightly”.
He said that there is a government in place and there are laws in the land and that all culprits in the killing will be apprehended and made to face the wrath of the law.
Before now, President Muhammadu Buhari condemned the killing and described the attack as “barbaric and unacceptable”.
The president said he “received news of the mob killings in Zamfara with great dismay”.
“I assure that the law will take its course. My prayers are with the families of the victims,” he said.
“Under my watch we will work to ensure that there is no place for violence in the name of religion, ethnicity, or in any guise whatsoever”, he tweeted.
