Fake Police Officer Hired By Sally Mbanefo Arrested, Arraigned

Two weeks ago, News of the People exclusively reported that the Director General of Nigeria Tourism Development Corporation (NTDC), Ms Sally Mbanefo hired a fake police officer as special adviser cum chief security officer. While all attempts were made to distort the story by the men of the NTDC boss, the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) has finally arraigned the fellow for impersonation in Abuja court.
Meanwhile, rather than admitting that the fake cop was hired by Sally Mbanefo, it was insinuated that he allegedly presented himself to NTDC as police officer to investigate the commission. Facts available to this magazine however was in contrary to the claim as both Sally and the fake police officer, Kunle Adeshola have been spotted at various official engagements. One of such was when the commission paid a courtesy visit to Leadership newspaper in Abuja where the DG introduced him as his special adviser on special duties cum Chief Security Officer. For now the DG is said to be running helter skelter to exonerate her name from the scandal she has originally created for herself and the embarrassment to the corporation. It would be recalled that the final straw that broke the camel back was when a huge sum was to be paid the fake adviser for distribution to security agencies and concerned members had to petition the EFCC.
The suspect, Kunle Adeshola, a fake Assistant Commissioner of Police who also claim to hold a doctorate degree from the University of Jos, before Justice Hussain Baba of the FCT High Court, Maitama, Abuja.
He was docked on a 7- count charge bordering on impersonation, forgery and obtaining under false pretence.
The accused pleaded not guilty when the charge was read to him, prompting the prosecuting counsel, Sylvanus Tahir to ask for a trial date, while urging the court to remand the accused person in prison custody.
However, the defence counsel, Yemi Akinseye, prayed the court to admit the accused person to bail, stressing that the charges preferred against him are bailable. He assured that the accused will be available to face his trial.
One of the charges reads, “that you Kunle Adeshola “M” sometimes between May and October, 2013 in Abuja, in the Abuja Judicial Division of the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory falsely pretended to hold the office of an operative of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission with staff identity card no. EFCC: 073, as a public servant and in such assumed character held out yourself to the Director General and staff of the Nigerian Tourism Development Corporation under colour of such office and thereby committed an offence punishable under section 132 of the Penal Code Cap. 532 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria (Abuja) 1990.”
Justice Baba granted the accused bail in the sum of two million naira, a surety in like sum who must be a civil servant of the rank of deputy director in the federal service, and resident in Abuja.
The accused person is to be remanded in prison custody until he perfects the bail terms. The case was adjourned to November 29, 2013 for hearing.
