This medium was recently bombarded with several complaints by customers as a result of fake mobile phones purchased from the bank some weeks back. As the story was told by a customer who purchased about five Samsung Galaxy S4 at Diamond Bank’s branch, the phones were later to be discovered as not original Galaxy S4 being sold by other authorized dealers. Miffed by the development, the customer along with an undercover reporter from News of the People stormed Diamond bank branch to launch a displeasure and immediately the value paid was refunded without delay. Some other customers were also spotted to seek refund for similar occurrence.
It was reliably gathered that the bank had financed a customer to import Samsung phones but went ahead to import substandard stuffs. For easy marketing, the bank was also said to have involved itself in its sales, thereby cajoling its customers in buying the phones at price that ordinarily would have raised eyebrow. A Samsung S4 was sold for 40,000 (Forty thousand naira) while ordinarily it was being sold at N85,000 (Eighty five thousand naira only).
DiamondA customer said it was a disappointing experience that a reputable bank would get itself into such a mess without getting certification from relevant agencies like Nigeria Standard Organization (NSO). It would also be recalled however that two months ago, NSO stormed the popular computer village in Ikeja to seal-up a warehouse and seized several mobile phones suspected to be counterfeit Samsung mobile phones.
In the same development, a source who craved anonymity said the phones sold by Diamond Bnak were phones specifically made for student research in Korea. Hence, several features were not included because it has a total memory of 1.5G as against 8G minimum which comes with every Galaxy S4.
When Diamond Bank was contacted, a member of its corporate communication department, Udogu Amanam could not provide useful information neither did he respond to the email sent for the bank’s response since last week.
