Aregbesola Vow To Send MTN Out Of Osun Over N399m

This is not the best of time for telecom giant, MTN. The government of State of Osun is seriously bent on shutting down all the base stations of the South African telecommunication in the state, the reason is because MTN has refused to the right of way permit fees to the state Internal Revenue Service, IRS, totaling over N399million.
Mr. Dayo Oyebanji the Acting Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, CEO, of IRS acting under the express permission of Ogbeni Rauf Adesoji Aregbesola, the Executive Governor of State of Osun in letter sent to the management of MTN last week said the governor was angry over the failure of the telecom gaint not fulfilling it’s financial obligation to the state.
The letter reads, “please be informed that the issue of non-payment constituted one of the reasons why we distrained five of your masts base stations in our state on April 7 which were released on April 9, based on mutual understanding with Mr. Samuel Seton during our meeting on April 8 that the payment should be effected on or before April 15. We therefore wish to express our disappointment on the failure of your organization to fulfill your civic responsibility in respect of this payment despite several demand notices”.
When News of The People, NOTP, contacted MTN’s spokesperson Wale Goodluck, he did not pick nor reply our text message about the development, meanwhile a source who craved for anonymity told us that, “The way and manner Osun State Government is handling the issue is not a civilized way of dealing with issue of this magnitude, forget about the millions of naira we have lost since the beginning of the problem, people’s lives and businesses are suffering in the name of attacking MTN. Why is Aregbsola brandishing us a chronic debtor. MTN has invested heavily more than the #399 million in Osun State as part of Corporate Social Responsibility, CSR, Osun is the is not the only state that we are having similar issue, is not a big deal, other that have such grey areas with are always resolved in a most civilized manner in which both parties relationships are not dented”.
