Abia Governor’s Convoy Shoots At Publisher’s car

Security operatives attached to the convoy of Abia State Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu, shot sporadically at the vehicle of the Publisher of Community Watchdog Newspapers, Comrade Precious Nwadike on Saturday June 18, 2016.
According to the publisher, he was on a business trip to Aba when he suddenly heard the sounds of the blaring siren of the Governor’s convoy behind him.
Following heavy traffic on the ever busy Aba-Owerri road, Nwadike was unable to swerve speedily and hurriedly out of the road, fast enough to enable the speeding convoy of the Governor to overtake him.
According to the publisher, rather than quietly edge him out of the road, the security operatives driving in pick-up vans ahead of the Governor’s car opened fire and shot at Comrade Precious Nwadike, ostensible to scare him out of the road and alert him that the king of the road “with undisputable right of way” is approaching.
Nwadike explained that the lead bullet that oozed out of the smoking gun would have heat Nwadike hard on the head or chest as it only mysteriously landed on the passenger’s side with a scare and dent on the car very close to the front mirror.
A totally alarmed Comrade Precious Nwadike could not believe it and so could not continue with his trip for fear that more troubles await him in front considering the threat by one of the police officers who vowed to cease the Publisher’s vehicle as soon as they get to the governor’s private residence at Aba.
The publisher later got in touch with the Chief Press Secretary (CPS) to the Governor (name withheld) who pleaded to wait for him assuring him that he was willing to come and access the level of damages and trauma unleashed on him and the car. Few minutes after the discussion, just as promised, the CPS arrived at the spot of the incident.
Realizing that the Publisher was not physically hurt or maimed by the bullet but satisfied that the bullet shot could have wreaked worse havoc, the CPS drifted back, offering mere apologies to the victim of the overzealous armed personnel in the convoy of the Governor.
It’s recalled that similar incident forced the Governor to sack his press team including Adindu, his CPS.
As at press time, no word of sympathy has emanated from either the Governor or his office over the incident even though their attention was immediately drawn to the ugly incident which would have led to the loss of life.
