​Vigilante rescues 7 kidnap victims in Lagos

Operatives of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria, VGN, yesterday in Ojo, Lagos State, rescued seven abducted persons inside the creek after a gun battle with kidnappers in Iba Bridge area.
The Commander of Operation, VGN Ojo, Otumba James Udoma who disclosed this to Vanguard said: “Seven passengers who were abducted while travelling in a boat were, in the early hours of yesterday rescued by VGN Ojo.
“The kidnappers left three women and a driver and went with the seven male victims. It was those women who came back that reported to us. We mobilised and went after the kidnappers.
“They collected over one million Naira from the victims and also inflicted machete cuts on some of them. We pursued them and got the victims rescued. Several of them sustained gunshots injuries, but managed to escape.
“We traced them, following bloodstains, but have not made any arrest so far. Notwithstanding, we are still combing the creeks. It was in the morning that the policemen from Area E joined us in the operation.”
According to Udoma, seven English-made pistols, one locally-made pistol, laptops, packs of cigarettes, packs of hot drink, were also recovered.
When Vanguard contacted the Lagos Police Command Public Relations Officer, ASP Olarinde Famous-Cole for confirmation, he said he had not got any confirmation on the story.
