Group sets to promote Urhobo culture in Lagos

Isio R’Urhobo Ladies’ Social Club, an all-ladies Urhobo socio-cultural group based in Lagos, is set to promote the culture of the Urhobo of Delta State.
In a statement signed by the President and the Secretary of the group, Mrs. Vero Okoro and Mrs. Femi Ajele respectively, the group stated that it has mapped out plans for its annual symposium billed to hold in November 2017 in Lagos.
The group explained that as part of the symposium this year, plans are in place to include the promotion of the Urhobo culture among its indigenes resident in Lagos, the state having the largest concentration of Urhobo outside Delta.
It stated further that because women are in charge of the home-front, they are targetting the female folks to enlighten them on the need to promote their culture by speaking Urhobo to their children at home, ensuring that children are part of the kitchen, to inculcate in them the knowledge and skills in preparing Urhobo delicacies, and taking them out on social functions to learn the Urhobo culture.
The group added that it has sponsored the publication of a handbook on Urhobo culture and language for use at home, and that it would be launched during the week-long  symposium.
