Eventful In Partnership with FirstBankA major crisis is presently rocking the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and this is authoritative. The management seem divided over the use of Permanent Voters Cards (PVC) only for the coming elections or the use of the Temporary Voters Card (TVC). At the center of the controversy is Dr Nura Yakubu the defacto duputy INEC chairman who is the national commissioner in charge of operations. Both prof. Attahiru Jega and Yakubu are now into serious dispute and the centre can no longer hold as things have fallen apart. Sources claim that Yakubu is acting a script as he insisted that the commission should authorise the use of TVC which is in line with the proposition of some ruling party stalwart.
It would be recalled that few weeks back the former chairman of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and chairman campaign organisation of Goodluck Jonathan/Sambo, Dr. Ahmadu Alli at a press conference called for the use of TVC for the coming elections. This has also been the position of top PDP elements like David Mark, Sambo Dasuki and some governors in the party. While the pressure is on, it was gathered that Mega insisted on the use of PVC as proposed to the senate at his last briefing of the national assembly.
Sources however posited that the ruling party is already in panic mood and all attempts are being proposed to swing the tide of the election.
