The Red Devil’s newly signed manager, Jose Mourinho has posted a video of his arrival at Manchester Piccadilly train station, ready to start work at the Aon Training Complex ahead of the much-anticipated 2016/17 season.
Using his personal Instagram account, the new Manchester United manager uploaded a short clip of him stepping off his train – coincidentally from coach J – in the small hours of Monday morning and he captioned it with the words: “I am here/UNITED we can.”
Thousands of Reds supporters commented on the Instagram post, with one writing “Good luck to the best manager in the world” and another saying “I still can’t believe you are with us”. One even lamented a missed meeting by claiming “I just left the platform a minutes before he arrived”.
Of course, Mourinho has been quietly going about his business as United manager since he was appointed back on 27 May, firstly by sanctioning new contracts for Academy graduates Marcus Rashford and Cameron Borthwick-Jackson, as well as long-term servant Michael Carrick.
The Portuguese has also been busy in the transfer market following his capture of Ivory Coast international Eric Bailly on 8 June and global superstar Zlatan Ibrahimovic last Friday. Mourinho will meet the majority of his squad at the Aon Training Complex later this week, except for those who have been or are still on international duty for their respective nations around the world.
The manager’s first big job will be selecting a squad that will fly to China for this summer’s Tour 2016, presented by Aon, which includes high-profile friendlies against Borussia Dortmund and Manchester City. A third friendly match against Galatasaray in Gothenburg will follow on 30 July.
The list of pre-season matches also includes Wayne Rooney’s testimonial against Everton on 3 August, as well as the FA Community Shield match against Leicester City at Wembley Stadium on 7 August. The Premier League season will then kick off at AFC Bournemouth on 13 August.
