Minister of Petroleum Kachikwu Dismissed?

NNPC-logo1Just yesterday curiosity was sprang in the atmosphere when an unconfirmed report coiled up from internet that President Muhammadu Buhari has relieved the minister of State for petroleum, Ibe Kachikwu from his duties as head of Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC).
In other to confirm this report, calls and personal contacts were made by newsmen. NNPC, however depict the unsubstantiated report as “completely false”.
The unproven report also said Mr. President had named the corporation Group Executive Director, Maikanti Baru as Kachikwu’s replacement in the office head of the country’s oil company.
But in a telephone interview on Thursday evening by Premium Times, the Group General Manager, Public Affairs Division of the NNPC, Garba-deen Mohammed depicted the news is untrue.
“The story is completely false,” Mr. Mohammed said. “It should be ignored by all Nigerians.”
“The minister is currently in his office and has continued to function in the roles assigned to him by the president.”
Also, a top official in the presidency who preferred anonymity said Mr. Kachikwu remained the Minister of Petroleum and the GMD of NNPC and urged Nigerians to disregard the news of his sack.
The Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, who as at the time of filing this report was on a tour to Côte d’Ivoire for the conference of all African ministers of tourism, could not make any instant comment on the matter
