Governor Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos State has stressed the need for business community to partner with government in ensuring a conducive, reduction in crime rate, as well as elimination of traffic gridlock in the forthcoming Yuletide period and beyond.
Meantime, the state government has completed the rehabilitation of popular Charity Road and other major roads damaged as a result of the construction of Jubilee Bridge in Abule-Egba, in fulfilment of the promise made by Governor Ambode to repair and upgrade all the inner roads.
On partnership, Governor Ambode made the call, weekend, during the 2017 stakeholders’ forum of the Lagos Island Central Business District, CBD, with the theme; “Revitalization of Central Business Districts for Economic Growth.”
The governor, represented by the Secretary to the State Government, SSG, Tunji Bello, said the measure became necessary as Lagos Island CBD is the hub of socio-economic and commercial activities in the state.
According to him, “it is the heartbeat of our national economy with the presence of all major financial and non financial orgnisations operating in Nigeria.
“Challenges of managing a CBD are dynamic and, therefore, must be reviewed often in collaboration with the business community with the aim of making the business environment as conducive as possible.”
In his address, Special Adviser on CBD, Agboola Dabiri, described the theme of the forum as “apt” considering the economic depression of the country which had in so many ways affected business and its environment.
Ambode had, during the inauguration of the bridge in May, assured that all the adjoining roads in the corridor disrupted through traffic diversion while the construction of the bridge lasted, would not only be rehabilitated but also upgraded.
In a statement by Mr.Olasunkanmi Idowu, Public Affairs Officer, Office of the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, the dual carriage Charity Road had since been completed with the removal and relaying of asphalt on both sides.
Aside Charity Road, the State Government had also completed the rehabilitation of Jibowu Estate Road connecting Agbe Road to U-Turn Bus Stop on the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway and Pipeline Road linking Awori to Ekoro Road.
