Ghana embraces All Africa Music Awards 2014

imageThe All Africa Music Awards, AFRIMA, a continental showpiece to celebrate the creativity and cultural heritage of Africans in partnership with the African Union Commission, was the hero of the media and entertainment industry in Accra, Ghana when members of the International Committee of AFRIMA formally presented the awards project to the media and invited guests at a media conference held at Alisa Hotels on Friday, June 27, 2014.
imageDuring the two-day stay in Accra, the capital of Ghana, members of the International Committee of AFRIMA including Executive Producer/CEO AFRIMA, Mr. Mike Dada; AFRIMA Regional Director, West Africa Mr. Don Obilor; AFRIMA Director, Brand Communications and Sponsorships, Ms. Matlou Tsotetsi and AFRIMA Country Director, Ghana, Mr. Francis Doku also hosted to interviews with media personalities and radio presenters.
At the conference, Mr. Francis Doku showcased AFRIMA’s distinctive lead by discussing various elements of the awards project such as “The Africa Music Summit” to be held in the week of the main awards ceremony under the theme “Reviving the Business of Music in Africa”. Francis Doku also explained the awards categories divided into regional and continental categories, Entry submission which is ongoing and closes on July 19, 2014 and the College of Voters.

“AFRIMA is a narrative of African music, culture and heritage on the global stage. It is fashioned as a medium to enhance African music industry’s bottom line and communicate harmony in Africa’ with the mandate of producing an international platform to celebrate our cultural heritage and values”, Mr. Francis said during his opening presentation at the event.
In an interview with Journalists at the event, the President, Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA), Bice Osei Kuffour (Obur) said “So far, an award scheme like AFRIMA which is bringing all African countries and Music of all African countries together where musicians will be rewarded will be a boost for the African music industry as an entity. I want to encourage everyone to throw their weight behind such an award”.
Also speaking at the conference, AFRIMA, Regional Director, West Africa, Mr. Don Obilor added; “The purpose of this conference is to inform stakeholders of the Mission and Vision of AFRIMA as well as acquaint participants with the activities that would culminate in its inaugural Award in October 2014”.
On Saturday June 28, AFRIMA team was hosted by Ghana’s Radio XYZ on the afternoon drive time show with radio presenter Alvin Stone talking about the awards. The warm reception continued the evening of Saturday June 28, 2014 with the team enjoying the nightlife in the city of Accra with Ghana’s celebrities.
The 2014 AFRIMA calendar contains an exciting line up of events such as AFRIMA Village, an open, festival-style four day concert to take place in Lagos, Nigeria on October 21 – 24, 2014 with performances from Africa’s well known music stars, music bands and some international music stars. Another is the “On the Road to AFRIMA Stakeholders Engagement Conference”, a programme tailored to happen in specific African cities where the awards project will be interacting with the music/entertainment industry, media, government officials, locals and sampling the lifestyle of those cities before the award ceremony.
In partnership with the African Union Commission, AFRIMA is a combined effort to recognise and award, promote and preserve Africa’s rich music culture. The main awards ceremony will hold in Lagos, Nigeria on Saturday, October 25 and it is expected to be a world-class event comparable only to the Grammy Awards.
The awards’ 32 categories is open to Music professionals of African origin living either on the continent or abroad and recognises Artists, Songwriters, Video Directors, Music Producers and Music Journalists, as well as unrecorded artists.
