As the ongoing 2016 Olympic momentum increases, the Nigerian under 23 football team, Dream Team, on Sunday made it through to the quarter-final of the tournament after defeating its Swedish counterparts one nil in their second match in group state.
Dream Team, topping group B with six clear points, dominated the field of play in the first half of the game but found it very difficult to find the back of the net of their competitors.
The Swedish’s goalkeeper, Linde made incredible saves denying the Nigerian side many goals. The goalie picked and parried header goal attempts by the dream Team number 13 shirt, Umar Sadiq.
Sadiq, who mounted the goal box of Sweden, kept his unrelenting efforts until he broke the deadlock at 40 minutes of the heated game when Linde of Sweden could not stop the flying header of the Nigerian tall man that changed the score line to 1-0 in favour of Nigeria.
The Dream Team, in the first half, had eight corner kicks while their confronters were unable to get one until 83 minutes of the encounter.
Meanwhile, the goal mugger against Japan, Oghenekaro Etebo, could not put his signature on the score sheet against Linde, who frustrated every on target attempts of the number eight shirt man.
At the return of second half, the Nigerian side played a defensive game, leaving Sweden to dominate with every effort to level up fruitless.
The Nigerian side with next play against Colombia but surely in a lighter mood.
