By the end of the third quarter of this year political activities would have enveloped the geographical entity called Nigeria. However in order not give room for opponents, politicians have been mobilizing and more frequents in their wards, constituencies and senatorial districts. This is the kind of politics been played in this part of the world. Masses sees their representatives only when elections are approaching, sweet tongue them after a re-election, share them crumbs in the name of dividends of democracy, and immediately disconnect after victory is recorded in the polls. Both the paraphilenia of office and loot are always for their families and privileged few.
The 2015 general elections is less than a year when all the registered political parties will throw their caps into the ring for political contest. The two biggest political parties in Nigeria, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP and All Progressive Congress, APC are the most visible for now because of their fanancial muscles in which the other less prominent ones cannot match.
Utter disbelieve still egulfed PDP as to how they lost Imo State to the opposition. To forstall a re-occurrence, the party has mandated the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Honourable Emeka Ihedioha, former Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC committee chairman in the Senate, Senator Ifeanyi Araraume and the Imo State PDP committee chairman on Contact and Mobilisation, Chief Jerry Chukwueke to take charge of party’s campaign ahead of next year gubernatorial election.
These three political heavy weights hails from Owerri, Okigwe and Orlu Senatorial districts respectively. Ihedioha has been mobilising the Mbaise people in readiness for the 2015 polls in which the Owerri zone and particularly Mbaise believe is their turn to produce the next number one citizen of the state. Araraume has also been busy wooing his people in Okigwe zone of the state,
In their various campaigns their messages was similar, to send their common political enemy Gov. Rochas Okorocha out of the Douglas government house, the seat of power in the state.
However as PDP is trying to bounce back into reckoning in Imo, there lies an herculean task ahead, if not properly managed, 2011 experience might come their way again. Leadership qualities of Ihedioha, Araraume and Chukwueke may be stretched beyond expectations for them to produce credible and acceptable candidate for the party cannot be over emphasized.
Owerri zone however appears more serious in producing the next governor of Imo state as more and more organisations are coming up campaigning for next candidate to emerge from their zone. President of one of these associations, Owerri Political Front Ebere Chukwuemeka said its their turn in Owerri zone to produce the next governor in 2015.
