Apostle Emmanuel Aderemi Awode, (M. Inst. D) is the Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of upwardly mobile and genuine service delivery conglomerate, Chemstar Paints Group of Companies, with head plant and production headquarters at Km. 32, Lagos Abeokuta Expressway, Finecoat Bus stop, Alagbado, Lagos.
The mercurial man of rare managerial skills, Apostle Awode, is no doubt one of Nigeria’s most innovative, industrious service-oriented, philanthropic and genuinely God-fearing persons. His exploits at virtually all the spheres of human endeavours he has found himself, even at less than 50 years of age, speak volumes and are worthy of commendation any day. This is exactly what this attempt aims to do, by chronicling the rich and deserving profile of this highly industrious man who no doubt has earned his stripes as a gifted, blessed and talented man with his very rare and unique style of excellent service delivery. Born in Lagos on September 7, 1963 to the illustrious family of Dr. D. A. Awode, he had his primary and secondary school education at Ereko Methodist Primary School and Government College, Ikorodu, all in Lagos. It is on record that young Emmanuel Awode, while at the college between 1976 and 1981, he had an unprecedented academic excellence in chemistry, without any threatening rival in particular. His proficiency in the subject earned him the moniker Lambert (who was a co-author of a popular Chemist textbook used in those days.) Emmanuel Awode, on successful completion of his secondary education, with an excellent WAEC result, he expectedly, gained admission to study Chemistry at the prestigious The Polytechnic, Ibadan, where he bagged the ND and HND in the same discipline with an Upper Credit. After his NYSC in 1989, Awode found it expedient to add more knowledge to the already rich ones he had gained while at the polytechnic. This spurred him to a fledging career in the industrial, manufacturing and production sectors. After over two decades, having developed himself education and gained considerable exposure in these vast areas, it was only natural for the promising Awode to launch himself into proper reckoning in his chosen field of endeavour. He has worked as a Chemical Analyst with Bato Chemical Laboratories, Lagos, from where he joined International Paints for West Africa (IPWA), Plc as Senior Paints Chemist. It was in fact at IPWA that Awode’s expertise and solid pedigree in Paints Technology came to the fore and has remained on a steady rise since then. At IPWA, Awode pioneered the Production of technical paints products as industrial coatings now used in the maritime industry, automotive paints and many more. It was the love he developed for paints manufacturing at IPWA, which gingered the creative and talented chemist to veer into entrepreneurship, thus enabling him to lift the science of paints manufacturing to an enviable and towering height. Intuitively, Awode, in 1994, voluntarily resigned his progressive and well-paying job at IPWA to float his own chemistar Paints Industrial Nigeria, Ltd. With the sole aim to manufacture paints and allied products using the unique and effective brand name FINECOAT PAINTS.
As the MD/CEO of a fledgling manufacturing company with little or no viable access to bank loans and financiers, it was not an easy task but with perseverance, hard work, doggedness, prayer, shrewd managerial skills, determination and above all, God’s infinite blessings, Awode was, with all these ingredients, coupled with sheer luck and commitment to one’s goal and ambition, able to take Chemstar Paints, in less than one decade, to an enviable height and still expanding the frontiers of the company’s distribution network beyond the shores of the country, Africa, Europe, Middle East, Asia and America, all in contemplation.
No doubt, Apostle Awode is a genius when it comes to business development and administration. Interestingly, what drives him is the desire to create wealth and employment opportunities both here in Nigeria and overseas. Having put the Chemstar Group, the umbrella body of his concern, on a steady and unimpeachable ground, Awode has gone ahead to develop other businesses, all of which have grown and are still growing in leaps and bounds like the oak tree. His multi-business interests cut across all strata of human endeavour spanning import and export trade, haulage service, real estate, agriculture, financial investment and information technology, apart from his primary and original constituency, the paints manufacturing industry where he plays big. Over and above all these, Awode’s business acumen has led him to set up business concerns in South Africa and Ghana, as his long chain of companies there includes: C-PIN INVESTMENTS LTD; SILVERSTONE PROPERTIES LTD; CHEMISTAR PAINTS IND. (GHANA) LIMITED; A & T LOGISTICS LTD; D & DAS LIMITED, SALES TALK 290 (pty) SOUTH AFRICA LTD.
Without sounding patronizing and unnecessarily hyperbolic, Awode has contributed immensely to the meaningful development of the Real Sector of the Nigerian Economy, having developed problem-solving paints and allied products, in addition to giving gainful employment to over 2, 000 – strong staff in Nigeria alone, and hundreds in his manufacturing plant in Ghana. Today, conveniently and in consonance with Awode’s shrewd business management trait and capability, all these new businesses and exploits are resounding success stories, even as Awode continues to be unrelenting in breaking new grounds and taking unassailable strides in the seemingly volatile business clime and environment.
Apostle Emma Awode is a bonafide, committed, strong and financial member of the following notable local and international bodies and associations: Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN), Paints Manufacturers Association of Nigeria, (PMAN), Nigeria Institute of Production Management, (NIPM), Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry, (LCCI), Nigeria – South Africa Chamber of Commerce, Nigeria Export Promotion Council (NEPC), Corporate Council on Africa (CCA), Washington D.C. (USA), Institute of Directors (IOD), Nigeria-Asean Chamber of commerce, Nigeria-Chna friendship Association, and he is still counting.
His life is not all about work, work and work like a Jack; his interests outside work are also as impressive and versatile. He is the patron of numerous social organizations and member of certain pro-active non-governmental organizations. As a philanthropist, he supports a local motherless babies’ home (Ijamido Motherless Babies Home, Ota, Ogun State) on a monthly babies via supply of free toiletries, clothing, foodstuffs and substantial amount of money. As a family man, Awode is happily married to beautiful and adorable TOSIN and they are blessed with lovely children who are surely taking after their parents in the area of service to humanity. His hobbies include lawn tennis, reading and travelling, having travelled extensively to Ghana, South Africa, Austria, Malaysia, Germany, Indonesia, India, China etc. Awode’s modest objective in life is “to attain excellence in all that he does”, and from all indications, he has religiously kept faith with this objective and can definitely not renege, God forbidding him.
Meanwhile, an attempt to reel out all the awards, recognitions and accolades that have come the way of Awode, might make this exercise exaggerated in nature, but the truth is that he genuinely bagged all these prestigious awards and recognitions. Let’s inundate you with some of them, professional, social, religious and philanthropic in all – Counseling Association of Nigeria (CASSON) NASTES, the Polytechnic Tbadan, ECOWAS Corporate Achiever Award, Rotary Club Alagbado, Kwame Nkruma Excellence in Enterprise Award, INRI windows Foundation, Chemical society of Nigeria, Govt. College Ikorudu, ICAN Ikeja District, Ijamido Children’s Home, etc. just to mention a few. Under Awode’s captainship as the GMD/CEO of Chemstar Group, he recently won three international awards and all these are due to his ingenious leadership and astute management. Apostle Emmanuel Aderemi Awode truly deserves all these accolades and from here we say KUDOS.
