Ambode Uncovers Fashola’s Messy corruption Dosier

ambodeA wind of change is blowing at the Lagos secretariat, the seat of the Lagos state government. In less than four months in the office, Lagos state governor, Akinwumi Ambode is returning sanity into the system while on the other hand indirectly exposing the corrupt and wasteful governance of his predecessor. Although, the process of sanitizing the system according to insiders is not targeted at the past government of Babatunde Fashola that was said to have compromised the system to a very large extent yet, the process is a necessary move to put the government on the right tracks.
For instance, the past government bloated the position of permanent secretaries in the state to 53 when the federal government itself has 43PS. This according to insiders brought about leakages and animosity in the civil service as some of the PS are not career civil servants and the measure was simply termed as wasteful. At the last meeting Gov. Ambode had with the PS he promised to reduce the number and also ask some of the career civil servants to go back as directors.
Unveiling the depth of maladministration in the past system was evident with the recent expose on the Lagos State Resident Registration Agency (LASRRA) headed by ex-governor Fashola’s sister, Lola Fashola (Ms). News of the People gathered that the sum of N7billion has so far been expended by the agency to capture and issue identification cards to residents in Lagos State. With the huge sum, the agency could only register 400,000 residents out of estimated 18million people in Lagos. While the general manager (Mr. Fashola) is back to the ministry of Science & Technology as a director, ministry officials still wonder why an agency would be funded heavily without recourse to the supervising ministry. When Lola was at LASRRA, the governor was said to have singlehandedly paid the sum of N150million to renovate a room that was damaged by a thunder storm, “How much did we rent the entire building that we spend N150million to repair a room?” the source queried.
fasholaAlso, the sacked permanent secretary in the ministry of Science & Technology, Nike Animasaun who is believed to be very close to the former governor is another case of monumental abuse in the system. A reliable source informed this magazine that the allocation of N2billion to the ministry in 2014 budget was squandered in a manner not in consonance with civil service rules. Another Director who was identified as Omoboya was said to be an accomplice in the sleaze. The director who was said to have worked with a telecom company in the past was caught red-handed using his personal company to execute over N200million contract. He was directed to face the panel of enquiry at the public service commission two weeks back and was eventually relieved of his post last week.
A source informed that before Nike was squeezed out, she has made contact with the Oba of Lagos to intervene in the matter and get her transferred to the Lands ministry. The Oba was said to have told her bluntly that everyone in the system knows her excesses and there was nothing he could do other than to pray she leaves the service in good health. Nike is said to be romantically linked with Lagos biggest contractor, Tunji Olowolafe, a bosom friend of the former governor.
Another case was the recent revocation of some Certificate of Occupancy by the new government where several discrepancies were spotted. The CofOs were said to have been hurriedly signed by the former government just weeks to the end of his administration. A particular incident also was the revocation a CofO of a vast land overlooking the Atlantic ocean where many top past government officials were allocated plots of land without the due diligence. The entire process said to be flawed has been revoked by Gov. Ambode.
A top civil servant revealed how an agency, Lagos State Facility Management was used to render its mother ministry useless. The heavily funded agency is to handle all repairs and maintenance of Lagos state government properties. The agency was headed by a general manager said to have a romantic relationship with the former governor Fashola. So annoyed was Gov. Ambode about the level of corruption in the agency that the General Manager was the first casualty of the operation clean Lagos State.
All efforts to speak with the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Habib Aruna proved abortive as all his phones were switched off and neither did he respond to the test message sent to his phone.

  1. These allegations are not very significant. We the citizens of Lagos knows Fashola will do more than this under the supervision of his mentor Tunubu. We hope more will be discovered. This is not avoidable in Nigerian Politics especially when ones relation is involved. The new Government will do itself the good of pluging all the holes of corruption. They take all our hard earned money as tax and waste it on themselves. We have not got explanation for how he got money for building his Lekki estates. The lekki road construction that never finished for 16 years need serious investigation. Although Fashola was a brilliant performer, but not withstanding it is a sin to gather poor people’s money and waste it. Some of us working class pay up to 8 million Naira per year to Lagos state excluding land use charge and vehicle licences and the extortion from lastma and vio for no offence. We are really suffering, a time will come when we will not endure all these mess anymore
