​​Review curriculum to accommodate knowledge application, Okonedo charges government

To prepare the Nigerian child for the dynamic world of work, Dean, Lagos Business School (LBS), Dr. Enase Okonedo, has urged education managers in the country to review the current curricula to be in conformity with evolving trends.
Speaking on the topic, “Education as a Cutting Edge for the Nigerian Child,” at the 10th anniversary of Tender Loving School (TLS) Ikoyi, now The Foreshore School, Okonedo said the world and the ways of doing things are changing hence the method and practice of teaching in the nation’s schools must change.
In reviewing the curriculum, she advised that it should not only focus on knowledge dissemination but also on globalised contents and application of knowledge, saying, “When pupils learn, think and act in accordance with what they have learnt, especially if the contents measure with global standard, the society will develop socially and economically.
“And so to educate Nigerian child to be at the cutting edge and propel the country to achieve its full potentials, the curriculum should be reviewed; funding should be adequate, up to date learning facilities and infrastructures should be available, and teachers who are in charge of training the kids should be regularly trained to be abreast of global happenings. Attention must be given to all these factors if we want to breed children who are critical in thinking and reasoning.”
Citing the number of out of school children in the country, she urged all stakeholders to rally and ensure children are kept in school to complete their basic education and proceed to higher education.
Deputy governor of Ogun State, Mrs. Yetunde Onanuga, while felicitating with the school commended the management for their academic achievement over the years.
Unveiling the new logo and nomenclature of the school, which was changed from “TLS, Ikoyi” to “The Foreshore School, Ikoyi, Lagos,” Onanuga expressed hope that with continuous private sector involvement in the education of the Nigerian child, the country will be transformed someday.
Director of Foreshore School, Mrs. Olubunmi Egbeyemi, remarked that the school has developed extensive curriculum and co-curricular activities to capture new content of learning that would enable pupils reliase their full potentials.
