• Church Celebrates 40 Years Anniversary
The Vicar/ Archdeacon of The Church of Pentecost, Anglican Communion, Diocese of Lagos West, Festac Town, Lagos, Ven. Israel Omotunde Owoyele, has attributed the problem of Nigeria to ungodly leaders who are controlling the affairs of the nation. He said that Nigeria has over the years produced leaders who are not godly, but they are the ones governing the affairs of the country.
Speaking at the 40th Anniversary of the Church in Festac Town, Owoyele, said: “The problem we have is that, we have been having people who are not godly, governing the affairs of this country, they are not hearing from God. Everybody is hearing from himself. If the people ruling this country were working according to the way of God, this country would have been a better place for us all.”
He called on Nigerian leaders to always adhere to do the will of God, as well as obey His voice.
And for the church, the cleric said: “The role of the church is to speak the voice of God to the Nation, and any nation that fails to hear the voice of God is a failure. The problem we have in this country is that we always neglect God’s voice and acknowledge men’s voices, which is sometimes regarded as the voice of the devil. It is very loud, but God’s voice is very low, you need to be patient and attentive before you can hear the voice of the Lord.”
On the anniversary, the Vicar/Archdeacon said: “We, therefore, give God the glory, honour, power, majesty and praise for the growth and expansion of the mustard seed sown into this land of Festac 40 years ago. The anniversary is throughout 2017 and in fact, the grand finale will come up later in the year.” Further, he said the idea of 40th anniversary of the church came to them as an inspiration.
“Sometime, in our meditation, last year, as we prepare for 2017 programme, and this was shared with the management, with eventual presentation at the Parish Church Council meeting, which led to the inauguration of the committee as directed by the Lord Bishop. The celebration was also revealed to us through the power of the Spirit, themed, ‘From Glory to Glory’ taken from 2 Corinthians 3:18,” Owoyele added.
Chairperson of the anniversary planning committee, Lady Adenike Okudoh in her remarks, thanked God that her committee was part of the remarkable history of the 40th anniversary of the church. She said: “When we were given this assignment to plan the 40th Anniversary celebration of the church, members of the planning committee had feared whether we would be able to pull through. Surely, the work was enormous, but much greater and reassuring was the One Who called and commissioned us: Jesus Christ! He enabled us to go through all the planning and preparations and we are returning all glory to God. We are moving forward, and we are grateful to God for that.”
Advising Nigerians, she said: “We should not take God for granted, we should be committed, evangelise, win souls for Christ, and most importantly, do His will and prosper.’’
